Octobre 1993 – Une journée historique à l’usine de Saintines

Ce matin-là, à Saintines, l’attente touche à sa fin. Après près d’un an de préparation, l’usine ouvre ses portes au public pour la toute première fois. Une foule se presse : plus de 16 000 visiteurs en une seule journée. À l’intérieur, l’odeur du bois et du soufre, le bruit régulier des machines, les gestes précis des allumettiers… Tout captive. Fiers et attentifs, ils présentent leur art, transmis depuis des générations. Dans chaque atelier, les regards se croisent, la curiosité rencontre la passion. Saintines ne montre pas seulement un métier : elle partage son âme. 

October 1993 – A Historic Day at the Saintines Factory 

That morning in Saintines, anticipation hung in the air. After nearly a year of careful preparation, the factory welcomed the public for the very first time. They came in waves—more than 16,000 visitors in a single day. Inside, the warm scent of wood and sulfur lingered, the steady hum of the machines filled the space, and the precise hands of the match makers moved like choreography perfected over generations. Proud and focused, they shared more than their craft—they shared a living heritage. In every workshop, eyes met, and in those fleeting moments, curiosity and passion became one. Saintines was not merely opening a workplace… it was opening its heart.
